Cold season is the season for zinc. Magazines, radio and television are filled with advertisements for zinc supplements to treat colds. Despite the abundant promises, science is unsure whether zinc supplements help treat the common cold. What is known, however, is that zinc is extremely important for everyday health.

The mineral zinc takes part in dozens of biochemical reactions in the body, working hand in hand with close to 100 different enzymes. Your immune system needs zinc in order to work properly, and your skin uses zinc to heal wounds. Without zinc, you wouldn’t be able to taste or smell normally.

Fortified foods with 100 percent of the Daily Value for zinc can be a useful source of zinc in a regular and vegetarian diet.

A: In a typical diet, zinc and iron levels are not high enough to interfere with each other. Supplements that supply large amounts of elemental iron, upwards of 38 mg per day, might decrease zinc absorption. If your doctor has recommended an iron supplement, talk to your doctor about taking the supplement between meals to prevent any blocking of zinc absorption.

As a subculture of BDSM, bondage involves people being bound, tied up, or restrained for pleasure. More often than not, bondage is performed as a sexual practice. l Bondage that wraps the whole body, or part of it, in bindings such as cloth or plastic. Materials such as saran wrap or cling film may be used for mummification of the bound partner. A sleepsack, a type of sleeping bag, is also used for this type of bondage.

Role players often set a fantasy setting in which they can play bondage. These settings include:
l Rape fantasy. In this setting, the dominant partner supposedly abducts the consenting victim and has total control to do whatever he pleases with the victim.
l Domination and slavery. The victim supposedly attends a training session in which he is rewarded for his obedience, and punished for any form of defiance against his master. Humiliation is sometimes involved in this setting.

Bondage is not only helpful to a couple’s sexual health, it transcends beyond the act’s sexual connotation. The bondage roleplay’s need for openness, trust, and full understanding of each partner’s difference brings about a new bonding experienced to a couple, holding them closer together.

It may seem hard to believe that the bathroom scale can be your enemy in low-fat living but if you’re accustomed to a morning weigh-in that leaves you feeling guilty, angry, discouraged or demoralized, then it’s worse than your enemy – it’s a skilled saboteur that stands ready to undercut your fat-fighting work.

Think about what happens when you step on that accusatory scale. Most of the time, it just delivers the bad news – that you haven’t lost weight or, worse, you’ve gained weight. Sure, the numbers are accurate, but the tale they tell is not the whole story. Those numbers on your scale typically tell half-truths. Your scale may tell you that you’ve gained ten pounds, when in truth you may have lost 5 pounds of muscle and gained 15 pounds of fat. If that’s happened, the scales give you the illusion that you’re only 10 pounds overweight, when in fact you need to shake off 15 pounds of fat.

On the other hand, the news might be better than the scale says. If you’ve been on a low fat program, for instance, your scale may say you’ve lost only 7 pounds after three months. But in fact you may have gained 5 pounds of muscle and lost 12 pounds of fat, giving you a net improvement in body composition that’s much more impressive than the scale is telling you. Or the scale may show you gaining weight when that weight is all muscle, which actually weighs more than fat. Not only are the scales indifferent to the balance between muscle and fat, they cannot distinguish between water weight and fat weight, either. An added pound or two may be just water and may vanish in, a day or so.

Among the reported 70 percent of all dieters who regularly weigh themselves, most forget that their body weight reflects an intricate combination of water, muscle, fat, bone and related tissues. The balance among those factors can vary from hour to hour, day to day, even when there’s no fat loss occurring. What this means, then, is that there’s no reason to weigh yourself every day, or even every week. When you’re on the track with low fat living, in fact, you may actually gain weight (as measured by the scale) while losing fat, changing body pro- portions, getting healthier and increasing your energy.

If you’re a stickler for mathematical progress checks, there’s still some measuring you can do if you want to, and it’s far more useful than referring to the scale. Measure your waist, hips, thighs and arms; they’ll all start to change as you lose excess fat. Then check these measurements every month or two for a simple indication of your progress. The fit of your clothing is another valid sign of improvement. You may want to try on a tight pair of jeans now, then put them away for future comparison.

In a nutshell, just keep the bathroom scale out of sight and out of reach. You have enough stress in your daily life without a morning dose of guilt, doubt and Monday-morning quarterbacking.

Many of today’s new homeowners are looking for environmentally friendly solutions to yard maintenance. Reel lawnmowers are not a new idea, but they are gaining in popularity. Environmentally conscious homeowners are giving up their self-propelled, petroleum powered mowers for the old fashioned, muscle powered versions in record numbers.

Reel lawnmowers differ from typical lawnmowers in several important ways. Invented in 1830 by Edwin Budding, the manual push mower allowed even the middle class to maintain a lawn easily. Mr. Budding’s lawnmower didn’t have an engine and was self-propelled the old fashioned way, you propelled it yourself. The design is fairly simple; several blades are mounted on a circular frame. The blades spin around, perpendicular to the ground, cutting the grass as they pass. Early models were made of steel and were quite heavy and difficult to push. Today’s lighter plastics and metals make the newer reel mowers much easier to use than their predecessors.

Reel mowers are attractive to environmentally conscious homeowners for several reasons. First, they don’t use gasoline and oil, so they have no harmful emissions. Accidents are less frequent with reel lawnmowers as well. Once the user stops pushing them, the blades stop spinning. Engine powered lawnmowers cause millions of accidents annually, but accidents caused by reel mowers are far less frequent, and usually much less severe.

Reel mowers are typically less expensive to purchase and maintain than engine mowers, making them attractive to the budget conscious consumer. Upkeep consists of a little lubricant and occasional blade sharpening. Initial purchase prices are a fraction of the souped up rotary mowers on the market today. Manual push mowers are great for exercise as well, with many users substituting a good lawn mowing session for one of their weekly jogs.

Another benefit of using a reel mower is noise reduction. Except for the occasional grunt of the user, these mowers are virtually silent. Grass cutting at midnight and early in the morning without disturbing the neighbors is a possibility with reel mowers.

Of course, there are disadvantages to these manual mowers. Their operation requires a lot more effort than gas or electric powered mowers, and they aren’t as easy to maneuver. Reel mowers don’t typically collect your cuttings and can’t cut twigs and sticks. In fact, sticks tend to jam the reel mechanisms. Manual mowers don’t cut tall grass or shred leaves as well as engine powered mowers, so more frequent lawn maintenance and raking is required.

A reel lawnmower might not be the best choice for a 5 acre plot. But for today’s urban homeowner with a small yard, the benefits and cost savings of manual lawnmowers make it a green choice for lawn maintenance.

There are all kinds of diet recommendations all over the bodybuilding magazines, fad diet books, and websites that advise to divide your eating into different “ratios” and “percentages” for weight loss and fat burning.

Some recommend high fat, low carb, others say moderate carbs, moderate fat, high carbs, low fat, etc.

But the one thing that each and every one of these “weight loss” / “fat burning” diets say is it must be HIGH in protein.

Well, I’m here to tell you the TRUTH.

It is NOT necessary at all to eat a diet high in protein to lose weight.

Just about everything you read says to eat 1-2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.

Some even go as high as suggesting you have to not only eat high, but massive amounts of protein to lose weight and burn fat.

This MYTH is due to 3 reasons:

1) Everyone thinks that muscle tissue is made up mostly of protein

2) Everyone thinks that either high amounts of fat or high amounts of carbohydrates will cause you to get fat

3) Everyone thinks that protein has a “thermogenic” (inner-body temperature raising) effect, which helps burn fat

All three of these beliefs are completely wrong! (In this article I am going to give you a very brief explanation, but in later articles I will go into more detail)

First, muscle tissue is NOT made up of mostly of protein. Muscle tissue is 70% WATER.

The other 30% is made of GLUCOSE, and AMINO ACIDS.

Your muscles need just as much glucose (which is what carbohydrates are converted into), if not MORE than protein.

You should know that one of the KEYS to weight loss is to have a significant amount of muscle tissue (that doesn�t mean you have to look like a bodybuilder if you don�t want to, though) on the body.

Why???

Because the more muscle you have, the faster and higher your metabolism gets, meaning you can literally burn hundreds of calories a day even when you are just sitting around watching TV.

The more muscle you have, the higher the amount of calories that you can eat while still losing weight / burning fat (trust me, no one likes having to eat an extremely low amount of calories in order to lose weight).

So, whether you are male or female, regardless if you want to look like a bodybuilder or just be toned up and in shape, you need muscle!

Those that have medically studied the physiology of the human body know that amino acids are what make up protein.

However, the body uses whatever amount of amino acids it needs at that particular moment. The rest it stores for later use.

It is NOT true that you need to be eating a “steady stream” of protein to lose weight / burn fat………your body keeps a little “pool” of stored amino acids.

Protein is by far the most difficult macronutrient to break down and digest.

The higher the amount of protein you eat the more stress you are placing on your digestive system.

Oh, by the way, what do you think happens to any excess protein??? It turns it into FAT!

Have you ever noticed how you feel when you eat a huge burger or steak?

Even after several hours have passed, it still feels like you’ve got that entire piece of meat just sitting and rotting in your stomach.

How much benefit in weight loss do you think that’s going to give you?

Have you ever drank those disgusting protein shakes or eaten those chalk-tasting protein bars?

You get gas, you feel bloated, and you might even get the “runs” (diarrhea).

That’s a major sign that your body is NOT properly digesting all of that protein!!!

There are several real-life examples of athletes that don’t consume massive amounts of protein to gain muscle weight, yet have tremendous physiques, have extremely defined and toned bodies, are in excellent health, are powerful, fast, and agile.

To just name some of them:

Remember, it doesn’t matter what we’ve been fed by the magazines, fad diet books, and companies trying to sell us their latest protein concoction. It all comes down to the calories!

These hormones signal the skin glands to produce more oil. When this oil mixes with dead cells, it can clog pores in the skin and trap bacteria as well. The result is often a raised tissue area characterized by swelling, redness, and pus. These bumps are also known as �pimples,� the symptom most commonly associated with acne.

Acne can occur anywhere on the face, neck, back, or chest, and severe cases can lead to social alienation, or emotional and physical scars. Although mild acne can not be entirely prevented, you can take three steps to minimize its impact.

Gently Cleanse Your Skin: Each day, gently wash your skin with lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing your face too hard or washing it too often. Doing so can make your acne worse. Also avoid using skin and hair care products that contain excess oil. Instead, use water-based skin care soaps that gently cleanse your skin, such as Neutrogena or Dove.

Apply Topical Ointments: At least once daily, but no more than three times a day, apply a nonprescription topical ointment to problematic areas. One of the best products is Clearasil because it contains both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide works to unplug clogged pores, while salicylic acid helps clear up blemishes by causing the top layer of skin to peel. Products that contain tea tree oil (commonly found in gels, creams, and lotions) or alpha-hydroxy acid are also desirable. However, remember that if you use a product too often, your acne can get worse. So confine your applications to less than three times per day unless otherwise directed by a doctor.

Avoid the Following: Make sure to avoid the following acts which can trigger acne flare-ups: overexposure to the sun, the wearing of tight-fitting items that rub against the skin, excess stress, constant touching of the face, working with oils or harsh chemicals, excessive sweating, hair hanging in your face, or the use of hair care products that contain oils. Also avoid squeezing pimples. Squeezing pimples can result in an infection and/or long-term scaring.

While mild acne is annoying, it will eventually pass. Most people will outgrow acne by their early-twenties, so there is reason to be optimistic. Make each of the above steps part of your daily routine, and you should be able to control your acne. However, those with more severe cases of acne should consult a dermatologist.
